The Infrastructure and Operations Support unit is part of the effort to transform the network

The Postal Service has a new organization to support USPS network transformation initiatives.

Under the Delivering for America plan, the Postal Service is building a network that consists of regional processing and distribution centers, local processing centers, sorting and delivery centers, and integrated logistics infrastructure.

The new organization, called Infrastructure and Operations Support, is led by Senior Vice President Ronnie Jarriel.

The teams that comprise the organization, and their leaders, are:

Facilities: Vice President Ben Kuo;

Fleet Management: Director Justin Glass;

Next Generation Delivery Vehicle Program: Director Victoria Stephen;

Facilities and Fleet Acquisition portfolio: Senior Director Martin Petrey;

Service Quality Assurance: Executive Director Greg White; and

Product Acceptance and Support: Senior Director Randy Workman.

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced the new organization last week.

The farmer and the swell

An employee provided first aid to an injured customer on her rural route

Rural Carrier Deborah Cummins was delivering mail in a remote area of Fort Dodge, IA, when she encountered a farmer who needed medical help.

The man, who had injured his hand, was bleeding profusely.

Cummins called 911 and rendered first aid to stop the bleeding and reduce swelling. She stayed until paramedics arrived to take the customer to a nearby hospital.

His wife later thanked Cummins and told her the man had recovered.

“Without Deborah calling 911, rendering first aid and waiting for the ambulance, the customer would not have survived. She is very truly a hero,” said local Customer Services Supervisor Tina Williamson.

Employees featured in “Heroes” receive letters of commendation through the Postmaster General Heroes’ Program. The nomination form is available on Blue.

Here’s what Link covered March 17-23

A ceremony, a showdown and a spring challenge made news

Stamps made news last week, and Link was there to cover it.

We told you about the dedication ceremony for the new Bluegrass stamp, held at the Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Museum in Owensboro, KY.

“Millions of people around the world will see this stamp and many of them will want to know more about the music. A huge door has opened up to us,” said Ricky Skaggs, a Bluegrass Hall of Fame inductee who spoke at the ceremony.

Link also covered the March Madness-style stamp showdown playing out on the Postal Service’s social media pages, and we told you about the new Celebration Blooms and Wedding Blooms stamp releases.

Other stories focused on Project Safe Delivery, the campaign to protect postal employees and secure the nation’s mail and packages; the retirement of Tom Foti, product solutions vice president, after a 35-year postal career; the launch of the Nourish spring wellness challenge; and the release of a “Mailin’ It!” podcast featuring Heather Dyer, the USPS chief information security officer.

Additionally, we went “On the Job” with Cheryl Robertson, a data conversion operator at the USPS Remote Encoding Center in Salt Lake City, and “Off the Clock” with Dan Hammond, a Winchester, VA, mail handler who is a Hot Wheels enthusiast.

Robertson described one of the unusual perks of her job, which is developing a surprising command over the nation’s ZIP Codes.

“Yesterday, a TV commercial mentioned North Pole, Alaska. I immediately came out with ‘99705!’” she said. “My daughters said, ‘Only you would know that, Mom!’”
