USPS recommends competitive price changes

The proposed adjustments would take effect on July 12

The Postal Service has filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission, or PRC, to adjust prices on some domestic competitive package and service offerings.

Changes include eliminating ounce-based rate differentiation for published commercial USPS Ground Advantage prices, which will not affect customers who have negotiated commercial rates for USPS Ground Advantage; and increasing competitive Post Office Box rental fees by 3 percent.

Pending favorable review by the PRC, the changes will go into effect on July 12.

The Postal Service will also:

• Introduce a new address management system option called Addresses API;

• Align the divisor for dimensional weight pieces to industry standards for Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, USPS Ground Advantage and Parcel Select; and

• Establish new fees for handling hazardous materials for Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express, as well as a noncompliance fee for improperly prepared hazardous material items shipped using competitive package products.

More information can be found in the Postal Service’s May 11 news release.

The complete USPS price filing can be found on the PRC website. Price tables are also available on the Postal Explorer website.
