USPS sets $3 million goal for annual charity drive
This year’s Combined Federal Campaign kicks off Oct. 1
The Postal Service wants to raise $3 million in pledges during this year’s Combined Federal Campaign, which begins Wednesday, Oct. 1.
The campaign, also known as the CFC, is the federal government’s annual workplace charity drive. The theme this year is “Your Gift. Their Future.”
Postmaster General David Steiner will join with union leaders in a video message stressing the importance of the CFC.
Pledges can be made online, on paper or through the CFC mobile app. Volunteer hours can also be pledged and will count toward the USPS total.
The campaign will conclude Wednesday, Dec. 31.
During the previous campaign, USPS raised $2.7 million for the CFC.
Employees with questions can email the Postal Service’s CFC team.

In October, the Breast Cancer Research stamp takes center stage
The semipostal release has raised almost $98 million since its introduction
The Postal Service will highlight its Breast Cancer Research semipostal stamp in October.
Semipostal stamps are First-Class Mail stamps sold at a price above the cost of a regular stamp to raise funds for designated causes.
The Breast Cancer Research release has raised almost $98 million since its introduction in 1998. More than 1.1 billion Breast Cancer Research stamps have been sold.
The stamp — the Postal Service’s first semipostal stamp — supports the breast cancer research work of the National Institutes of Health and the Defense Department’s medical research program.
The artwork depicts a woman standing with her right arm raised, reaching behind her head in the position recommended for breast self-examination. Across the top of the stamp are the words “breast cancer.” Circling the figure’s right breast are the phrases “fund the fight” and “find a cure.”
USPS facility leaders and employees can promote the stamp in October but must follow the organization’s rules on semipostal stamp activities.
Employees with questions about these activities should email the USPS Ethics Office.

Protecting your teeth is a daily commitment
It’s important to brush properly and floss to prevent plaque buildup
Proper oral hygiene, including daily brushing and flossing, is essential for healthy teeth and gums, according to the National Institute of Dental Craniofacial Research.
When paired with regular dental exams and cleanings, good oral hygiene is a person’s best chance to keep their teeth for a lifetime.
Proper and consistent tooth brushing removes dental plaque — a sticky, colorless film of bacteria. Plaque buildup can cause tooth decay and gum disease. Even teeth that contain fillings are at risk for decay.
Plaque can also harden below the gum line, causing the gums to bleed and become red and swollen. These are signs of gingivitis, a common and mild form of gum disease.
When brushing, make sure to:
• Use fluoride toothpaste. Fluoride is what protects teeth from decay.
• Do so gently using small, circular motions. Do not scrub hard back and forth.
• Brush all sides of each tooth and brush your tongue to remove additional bacteria.
• Floss afterward because it removes plaque and food particles between teeth.
