Clue: This naturalized U.S. citizen will be honored with a stamp
Correct response: Who is Alex Trebek?
The Postal Service will release a Forever stamp honoring beloved former “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek on Monday, July 22.
Ken Jennings, the quiz show’s current host, announced the stamp on the June 21 episode. To find local broadcast times, check the “Jeopardy!” website.
The stamp’s release is concurrent with the show’s 60th anniversary this year. Presales for the stamp began June 21 at usps.com.
Trebek (1940-2020) began hosting “Jeopardy!” in 1984, becoming a respected presence in millions of homes during his 37-season run.
The grid of 20 identical stamps resembles the array of video monitors that form the “Jeopardy!” game board.
On the stamp is written the prompt, “THIS NATURALIZED U.S. CITIZEN HOSTED THE QUIZ SHOW ‘JEOPARDY!’ FOR 37 SEASONS” and underneath, upside down, is the correct response: “Who is Alex Trebek?”
On the stamp pane, category headers appear at the top of each column of stamps, and to the left is a photograph of Trebek with a portion of the “Jeopardy!” set behind him.
Antonio Alcalá, an art director for USPS, designed the stamps using photography provided by Sony Pictures Entertainment and hand lettering by Marti Davila.
The stamp will be dedicated July 22 during a ceremony at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, CA.

Mericle worker
This carrier aided a customer stranded outdoors after falling and breaking her leg
Rural Carrier Debra Mericle was delivering mail in Paulding, OH, in January when she heard a cry for help.
She found an older customer on the ground, in pain, near the foot of the steps to the woman’s home.
The customer said she’d slipped on ice while trying to feed her cats and had been stranded in the cold for hours.
The Postal Service employee called 911 and the woman’s children, who live nearby. She stayed with the customer until paramedics arrived.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for a broken femur and had to undergo a complicated surgery. She is undergoing physical rehabilitation.
A local newspaper published a letter from the customer’s daughter-in-law praising Mericle as a “guardian angel” and “our hero.”
Employees featured in “Heroes” receive letters of commendation through the Postmaster General Heroes’ Program. The nomination form is available on Blue.

A mercury safety reminder and a new stamp honoring Alex Trebek made news
Last week, Link told you about the Postal Service’s plans to release a stamp honoring Alex Trebek, the beloved “Jeopardy!” host.
On the stamp is written the prompt, “THIS NATURALIZED U.S. CITIZEN HOSTED THE QUIZ SHOW ‘JEOPARDY!’ FOR 37 SEASONS” and underneath, upside down, is the correct response: “Who is Alex Trebek?”
Presales began June 21 for the stamp, which will be released Monday, July 22.
We also covered the special dedication ceremony for the new U.S. Flags stamps and told you about the Horses and Shaker Design stamp releases.
Link also reminded you that metallic mercury is prohibited in the mailstream; we warned you about quishing, a form of phishing that uses fake QR codes to commit identify fraud; and we told you about a new “Mailin’ It!” podcast about how the Postal Inspection Service cracked a massive fraud case.
Additionally, we introduced you to Shakeara and Taishonna Stewart, married highway contract route drivers who rescued a woman who had broken her leg while doing yard work in St. Stephens Church, VA, and Sherry Wyatt, an occupational health nurse in Texas 2 District who recently organized a health fair that drew nearly 300 employees.
“There was a lot of positive feedback,” Wyatt said.
