Thinking about becoming a postal inspector?
The Inspection Service is taking applications through Nov. 5
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is now accepting applications through its hiring portal until Thursday, Nov. 5, to fill postal inspector positions.
Postal inspectors are federal law enforcement officers who protect the integrity of the U.S. Mail and safeguard USPS employees and customers.
They combat mail theft, drug trafficking, money laundering, cybercrime, identity fraud, financial fraud, violent crimes and counterfeit postage. They also help prevent dangerous and hazardous substances from being sent through the mail.
To become a postal inspector, an applicant must:
• Be a U.S. citizen;
• Be between the ages of 21 and 37;
• Meet the physical requirements;
• Possess a conferred four-year degree from an accredited academic institution or have equivalent military experience;
• Be willing to travel; and
• Have no felony or domestic violence convictions.
Recent classes of new postal inspectors included military veterans, USPS employees, Inspection Service contractors, law enforcement officers and private sector employees.

Review your benefits each year to make sure they still fit your needs
When healthcare needs change, benefits should, too. The open season benefits enrollment period is an ideal time for employees to take a fresh look at coverage.
Each year, plans can change. Premiums, deductibles, provider networks and covered services may be updated, which could affect out-of-pocket costs. At the same time, personal situations may change. A new prescription, a growing family or a new diagnosis can affect which plan is the best fit.
Reviewing benefits annually helps ensure employees are getting the coverage they need without paying more than necessary.
The MyHR Open Season Enrollment page details all the benefit programs available, including the Postal Service Health Benefit Program for career employees, the USPS Health Benefits Plan for precareer employees, vision and dental insurance, health savings accounts and flexible spending accounts
The page also provides direct access to PostalEASE, the Postal Service Health Benefits System and the Consumers’ Checkbook tool for comparing healthcare options.
This year’s open season runs from Nov. 9 through Dec. 14.
Additional coverage can be found on Link’s Open Season 2026 page.
