USPS to honor Hank Aaron with a stamp

The release was announced on the 50th anniversary of his record-setting home run

The Postal Service will release a stamp this year to honor baseball great Hank Aaron, who rose from humble beginnings to rewrite the record books while prevailing in the face of racism.

The stamp was announced April 8, the 50th anniversary of the game where Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s home run record.

The stamp art features a digital painting of Aaron (1934-2021) as a member of the Atlanta Braves, showing his famous right-hand batting stance.

The side of the pane has a large illustration of Aaron on April 8, 1974, watching the ball he had just hit for his record-breaking 715th home run.

Greg Breeding, an art director for USPS, designed the stamp and pane with original art by Chuck Styles.

The Hank Aaron stamp will be available in panes of 20 at Post Offices and usps.com.

The release date and dedication ceremony location will be announced later.

This plant supervisor nurtures teamwork

My name is Cameron Larsen and I’m a distribution operations supervisor at the Salt Lake City Processing and Distribution Center.

I’m one of six supervisors at the plant. It’s a big effort. We need to keep on our toes to make sure we get everything processed to go out for delivery.

I’m on tour 3, which means I work from 4 p.m. into the early hours of the morning. I divvy the assignments and monitor how everything is going — if there are any issues with machines, or if a clerk calls in sick, I do some juggling to make sure everything is covered.

It’s hard work but well worth it.

I started with USPS in 2021 as a mail handler. My co-workers told me I had a positive attitude. It helps a lot when you work with people in a good mood. It makes things a little easier.

I was born in Utah, grew up in California and then moved back. It’s a beautiful place. When I’m not at work, I like to hang out with my brothers and sisters and go hiking and snowboarding. I also bowl, play softball and fish — winter or summer.

My only regret is that I didn’t join the Postal Service sooner.

I’m especially enjoying my new role as a supervisor. It’s a new challenge.

If someone is having a bad day, I always try to talk with them, help them have a little bit better of a day. And if someone is slowing down or needs help, I try to work with them.

We’re here to be a team, to get a job done, and the way we get it done is teamwork.
