Letter Carrier Jeff Miller was delivering mail in Oskaloosa, IA, recently when he heard a faint cry of “mailman.”
The Postal Service employee looked around and saw a woman in a backyard waving him down. The customer had fallen and had been on the ground for about an hour as people and cars passed by.
After Miller called 911, the customer asked Miller to go inside her house to turn off the TV and grab her purse.
The employee also wrote a note for the customer’s son, who was still at work.
After paramedics arrived, the customer was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for a broken hip.
“We got a call the next day from the woman’s son, who wanted to make sure our carrier received recognition for his heroic deed,” said Postmaster Sarah Stevens.
