USPS employee and aspiring actor Carlos Ayala has a new role: playing himself in a Postal Service TV advertising campaign that began last week.
Ayala, a letter carrier in Northbrook, IL, heard about the casting call and “jumped on it right away,” he told the Chicago Tribune.
The campaign will consist of multiple ads, including one that shows Ayala driving a Postal Service vehicle. He also appears in a behind-the-scenes video about the campaign.
Ayala joins other employees who will appear in the commercials, which will air throughout the spring and summer.
“Nothing like getting somebody who works in the field who knows what it’s like,” said Sean Hargadon, a USPS spokesman. “That’s what really makes it authentic and exciting.”
Ayala has also appeared in an ABC drama pilot, as well as a video that plays before Chicago Bulls games. When he isn’t pursuing his acting passion, he enjoys delivering mail in the Northbrook area.
“I love the neighborhood,” he said. “The customers are all super friendly. I know most of them, and they treat me real well.”
