Plush deal

Manager’s tip brings in $96,000

Ana Garza, a South Tyler, TX, customer services manager, recently used the Business Connect program to generate more than $96,000 in new revenue for USPS.

A customer services manager’s sales lead has resulted in more than $96,000 in new revenue for the Postal Service.

Ana Garza, who works at the South Tyler, TX, Carrier Annex, was assisting a business customer who ships plush stuffed animals, both domestically and internationally.

After learning that the customer was interested in saving on shipping costs, Garza submitted a lead through Business Connect, a program for Postmasters, managers and supervisors to pass on sales leads to the USPS Sales team.

Anthony Sanchez, a Dallas District business development specialist, and Kasey Ellis, a senior field sales representative, followed up with the customer.

They were able to close a shipping deal for $96,627 in new estimated annualized revenue.

Sales generated from Business Connect leads count toward the USPS Power of One campaign to raise revenue through sales leads from employees.

“Our local Post Office managers, like Ana, know how to engage with their customers,” said Mary Anderson, small-business engagement director at USPS headquarters in Washington, DC. “And when they do, opportunities present themselves to identify new business and grow revenue.”

The Postal Service is encouraging as many employees as possible to submit at least one lead through any of its six lead programs by Sept. 30. The Small Business Sales team is tracking program participation rates through its weekly “Drive to 35” downloadable report.
