Last week, Link told readers about a line of bags and backpacks from accessories brand Sprayground that features USPS themes and images. The items became available on the company’s website Sept. 5.
We also spotlighted a few of September’s many observances, including Labor Day, National Preparedness Month and National Suicide Prevention Month. September is also the month when USPS promotes its Alzheimer’s semipostal stamp.
And we shared a link to the latest “Mailin’ It!” podcast, which tells the story of a wide-ranging identity theft and fraud operation based in Hampton, VA.
There were reminders about the year’s final supervisor fair, the ethics surrounding gifts for co-workers, and a story on how USPS is providing enrollment services for TSA PreCheck, the Transportation Safety Administration’s expedited screening program for air travelers, at six Atlantic Area Post Offices
World Letter Writing Day on Sept. 1 seemed the perfect time to run a feature on letter-writing cafes — in Paris and Seoul — that encourage customers to write a letter to their future selves; and “On the Job” highlighted Ann Marie Byrnes, a USPS environmental programs analyst who provides support to the field on issues related to environmental compliance.
Finally, “Heroes” told the story of Jeff Miller, a letter carrier in Oskaloosa, IA, who came to the aid of a woman who had fallen in her backyard.
Miller called 911 and, at the customer’s request, went into her house to turn off the TV and grab her purse. The USPS employee also wrote a note and left it for the woman’s son.
The woman was treated in the hospital for a broken hip and her son called the Post Office the next day to make sure Miller was recognized for his kind actions.
