The Postal Service is reminding employees that gambling in the workplace violates USPS policies and federal ethics laws.
Employees are prohibited from gambling while on duty, in uniform or on USPS property. They also cannot use USPS computers or mobile phones to gamble at any time.
Prohibited gambling includes:
• Purchasing lottery tickets or pulling funds together to do so;
• Participating in sports betting pools for money, such as NCAA March Madness basketball tournament brackets;
• Making any type of bet or wager; and
• Using gambling devices for money, such as dice or playing cards.
Employees who engage in prohibited gambling can face disciplinary action — including removal from the Postal Service.
There are limited exceptions for Combined Federal Campaign activities and for facilities with Randolph-Sheppard Act vendors where state lotteries exist.
