The Postal Service’s new Dragons stamps will bring a touch of mythology to the mail, USPS leaders and others told attendees at the Aug. 9 dedication ceremony in Columbus, OH.
Eastern Area Vice President Joshua Colin, who led the dedication ceremony, discussed how the high-flying, fire-breathing creatures began appearing in folklore thousands of years ago.
“Just like the animals in legends and fairy tales, these brilliant Dragons stamps are a triumph of the imagination,” Colin said.
The dedication was part of an American Philatelic Society stamp show. Other speakers included Stamp Services Director Mary-Anne Penner and Scott D. English, the American Philatelic Society’s executive director.
The stamps feature four illustrations: a green fire-breathing dragon towering over a medieval-inspired castle, a purple dragon with orange wings and sharp black armor on its back snaking around a white castle, a black dragon with green wings and green armor on its back swooping past a ship on the sea, and a wingless orange dragon weaving its way around a pagoda.
