Scanning snapshot. The Postal Service’s national scanning rating was 97.77 percent during the week ending Aug. 25, down from one week earlier.
Western (98.15 percent) topped the areas, while Dakotas (99.11 percent) led the districts.

Final farewell. Jim Gaboardi, a retired Connecticut letter carrier who was the subject of a viral mail request this year, died Aug. 22 in Bethel, CT.
Gaboardi enjoyed reading and sharing the many cards, letters and mementos he received from Postal Service employees, according to his granddaughter, Meghan Henriques-Parker.
“I would like to thank all the wonderful people around the country from USPS for their continued support and outpouring of love this past year,” she said.
Gaboardi worked for the Postal Service for 40 years. His obituary is posted on Legacy.com.
