“On May 22, I was delivering on Route 66 in Key West at around 3 p.m., and I died.”
So began a letter from Key West, FL, Letter Carrier Keith Moore to then-acting Florida 3 District Manager Lisse Garrett.
Moore suffered cardiac arrest and was dead for more than four minutes. “I am contacting you to tell you about the minutes and hours that followed the incident,” he wrote, praising the support he received from Key West Postmaster Javier Agostini and Summerland Key, FL, Postmaster Tiffany Lewicki.
Moore explained that Agostini and Lewicki arrived at the hospital just after his 17-year-old daughter. He had to be transported by helicopter to Miami for treatment, and his wife needed their daughter’s car to drive the approximately 160 miles to meet him. Agostini and Lewicki offered to drive the girl home so her mother could use the vehicle.
“They were a rock when she needed it,” he wrote. “I am glad the Postal Service has great people like Javier and Tiffany. I am even happier to be on the Key West team at a time like this, when the best people shine.”
State Department recognizes Chicago employees
The State Department recently recognized USPS employees at the J.T. Weeker International Service Center in Chicago for their efforts supporting global Diplomatic Post Office operations and military campaigns, including Operation Epic Fury.
