The Postal Service is reminding employees and contractors that they must properly dispose of waste light bulbs, as they may contain mercury or other toxic metals.
Fluorescent, high-intensity discharge, LED and ultraviolet lamps are all subject to strict waste management regulations.
These waste light bulbs should be stored in closed containers, clearly labeled and recycled within one year through the Cleanlites Recycling mailback or pickup services, available on eBuy Plus.
Incandescent or halogen lamps typically do not contain mercury or toxic metals and can be disposed of in the trash or dumpster — if no recycling options are available.
