The Postal Service is celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary with special events, commemorative merchandise, a special postmark and more.
One of the highlights will be the dedication of the Declaration of Independence stamp, which will take place at the B. Free Franklin Post Office in Philadelphia on July 4.
The Postal Service is also encouraging customers to visit any of the more than 60 Post Offices that were operating in 1776 and are still open today — many of which will have community art displays, local stamp dedications and other events.
USPS is also offering:
• Stamp-inspired products including oversized postcards, portfolios and collectible booklet sets honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary.
• A special postmark for mail processed through August.
• Select Priority Mail envelopes and boxes that sport a design celebrating the 250th anniversary.
• Mail collection boxes redesigned with a patriotic theme at 30 locations in 24 cities that are tied to events of the nation’s founding.
• Themed and commemorative merchandise that will be available at participating Post Offices and usps.com.
The Postal Service, which is older than the nation itself, concludes its own 250-year celebration this July.
More information and a list of historical Post Offices that date back to the nation’s founding are available in the organization’s June 11 news release.
