Rural carrier’s tip leads to $400,000 deal

Arodi Cerrillo, a Flower Mound, TX, rural carrier, used the Rural Reach program to help generate new revenue for USPS.

A Texas rural carrier’s lead has resulted in a shipping deal worth more than $400,000.

Arodi Cerrillo, who works at the Flower Mound Post Office, talked with a representative of an e-commerce company on her route and learned that the business needed help with shipping.

She submitted the company’s information through Rural Reach, a program that encourages rural letter carriers to take advantage of their relationships with small-business customers to find new sources of revenue for USPS.

Postal Service sales representatives followed up with the customer and closed a shipping deal for $405,000 in new estimated annualized revenue for the organization.

Sales generated from the Rural Reach program are included in the USPS Every Lead Counts campaign to raise revenue through sales leads from employees.

“Arodi saw an opportunity to help her customer and put them in contact with someone who could solve their shipping problem,” said Lou DeRienzo, a small-business senior specialist at USPS headquarters in Washington, DC. “Our rural carriers are a great resource for their customers.”

The Postal Service is encouraging as many employees as possible to submit at least one lead through any of its six lead programs by Sept. 30.
