Inspection Service offers holiday tips

A new Postal Inspection Service video shows customers how to protect their holiday package deliveries.

Don’t leave delivered mail and packages unattended in mailboxes or on front porches for any length of time.

That’s the message from the Postal Inspection Service in a new holiday public service announcement.

Packages left unsecured can become marks for thieves, leaving the recipient a gift short for the holidays. To avoid this fate, postal inspectors recommend customizing your delivery or holding mail at the local Post Office when out of town.

If customers notice unknown persons loitering around mailboxes, or someone stealing mail, they should call their local police department immediately and then call the Inspection Service at 877-876-2455.
