The CyberSafe at USPS team wants to help employees protect themselves during this year’s election season.
Like they do during every election, scammers and cybercriminals are trying to take advantage of voters and using various tricks to obtain personally identifiable information. Often, these schemes take the form of political polls, surveys and voter registration requests that appear in voters’ email inboxes.
To ensure that you don’t fall victim, follow these tips:
• Go to vote.gov for your state’s voting registration information and don’t register via email.
• Online voting is not a recognized voting method in any election; any request to do so is a scam.
• Limit what you share. When completing a poll or survey, don’t provide your credit card numbers, Social Security number or other personally identifiable information.
• Always use cybersecurity best practices while using your email. Hover over links before clicking on them, verify email addresses from senders, and look out for typos and poor grammar because these can be indicators of a phishing attempt or an email scam.
