Employees aided charities during pandemic

Postal Service employees donated more than $45,000 to charities during a special Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) solicitation to aid charities affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management, which runs the campaign, offered the solicitation from April to June to support organizations facing operational challenges due to the health crisis.

In addition to monetary donations, postal employees pledged volunteer hours valued at $1,316 during the three-month giving period.

The special solicitation raised the Postal Service’s final total during the 2019-20 campaign from $6.7 million to $6.9 million, while the total value of volunteer hours increased from $191,630 to almost $193,000.

USPS employees donated more to the 2019-20 CFC than any single federal agency, although the organization raised more during the previous two campaigns.

“Postal Service employees have shown once again that they are reliable, enthusiastic supporters of the Combined Federal Campaign. We thank them for their contributions,” said Kathleen Harper, a human resources program and policy analyst at USPS headquarters in Washington, DC, who oversees the organization’s CFC efforts.

In total, federal agencies contributed an additional $2.6 million to CFC-member charities during the special solicitation.

The 2020-21 CFC campaign is slated to begin in the fall.
