Scanning snapshot. The Postal Service’s national scanning rating was 97.58 percent during the week ending Oct. 20, up from one week earlier.
Dakotas (99.26 percent) topped the districts, while Western (98.16 percent) led the areas.

Local hero. The press is continuing to lavish praise on the USPS employee who was featured in a viral video that showcased his dedication after the recent California wildfires.
Last week, “NBC Nightly News” showed Santa Rosa, CA, Letter Carrier Trevor Smith returning to his daily route on a desolate road filled with fire-damaged houses and mailboxes.
The segment includes footage of Smith delivering mail to a 97-year-old customer and discussing the enduring importance of USPS.
“Heroes wear all kinds of uniforms,” anchor Lester Holt said at the end of the 1-minute, 44-second report, which is available on NBC’s site and YouTube.
Pacific praise. Speaking of Santa Rosa: Pacific Area VP Larry Munoz visited the office this week to thank employees for their efforts to restore normalcy in the aftermath of the wildfires. The USPS Service Alerts site has the latest operations updates.
