Solar express. Don’t be left in the dark by the total solar eclipse.
The historic event will occur Monday, Aug. 21, when the sun, moon and Earth align, turning day into night for a few minutes.
The eclipse will produce a 70-mile wide “path of totality” through 14 states. The path is expected to begin in Oregon shortly after 10 a.m. PDT and depart South Carolina around 2:47 p.m. EDT.
It will be the first total solar eclipse to cross the United States coast-to-coast in 99 years.
USPS has distributed a stand-up talk with safety tips for employees, along with an online map that shows Post Offices in the eclipse’s path.
Offices are preparing for the event by offering special postmarks and the new Total Eclipse of the Sun stamps.
Class act. As back-to-school season begins, the Postal Bulletin’s latest edition reminds employees who drive USPS vehicles to keep an eye out for children.
Drivers are advised to take precautions to avoid accidents and stay alert for school buses and children crossing streets.
