USPS has delivered more than 2.6 billion pieces of election and political mail since October 2015, new data show.

These totals include approximately 85 million election mailpieces and about 1.3 billion political mailpieces delivered during the six-week period before Election Day.

“The Postal Service plays a significant role in the democratic process,” said PMG Megan J. Brennan. “We have a duty to process and deliver all Election Mail and Political Mail, and our employees take this duty seriously. I thank them for another successful election season.”

Election Mail includes ballots, registration information and voters’ guides, while Political Mail describes mail from campaigns, candidates and advocacy organizations.

Several states reported big increases in ballot mail this year. Three states — Colorado, Oregon and Washington — now hold all elections entirely by mail.

To prepare for election season, USPS worked with local officials, educated employees on processing and delivery requirements, and helped campaigns create effective mailings through new digital tools and industry partnerships.
