A recent boat outing in Tennessee took a harrowing turn when a small child alone in a vehicle on a boat ramp accidentally knocked the vehicle out of gear, sending it plunging into frigid water.
The boy’s grandfather, who was loading his boat onto a trailer, rushed into the water to rescue the child, handing him off to bystander Timothy Brown, a Knoxville mail handler.
The water temperature, however, sent the man into shock and he began to sink. That’s when Brown jumped in and pulled him to safety.
The local police department credits Brown with saving the man’s life and recently issued him a certificate of appreciation “for performing highly creditable community service … under difficult conditions.”
