New video spotlights Armed Forces stamps

USPS honors 250 years of the Army, Navy and Marine Corps

The Postal Service has released a video about its Armed Forces stamps, which celebrate the 250th anniversaries of the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps.

The nearly 3-minute video features comments from Jeffery Adams, the Postal Service’s corporate communications vice president, who spoke at the May 16 dedication ceremony for the stamps.

Adams notes in the video that there are almost 1 million soldiers, sailors and Marines currently on active duty, and a half million more serve in the National Guard and Reserve components.

She comes by it honestly

A postmaster takes an oath, an office hosts a big passport fair and two employees visit a local school

Amarillo, TX, Postmaster Landon Thornton recently administered the oath of office to a familiar face: daughter Macy Wolf, the new Vega, TX, postmaster.

Wolf began her career in 2020 as a city carrier assistant and knew she wanted to follow her father’s career path. Thornton began as a letter carrier with USPS in 1990 and became a postmaster in 2018.

“I have fond memories of my dad as a mail carrier. As a leader, he is consistent and knows how to motivate people into doing things the correct way,” she said.

More tributes are on the way: Wolf and her family are awaiting the birth of her second child, a boy who will be named Landon.

All’s fair

It’s passport season — and one USPS facility has gone the extra mile to serve their customers.

The Stratford, NJ, Post Office has seen a big spike in customers making appointments for new passports. Because the slots fill up fast — and because some customers have trouble taking time off during regular business hours — the Stratford team arranged a special passport fair on a recent Saturday.

The result: Employees processed more than 70 passport applications during the three-hour fair.

“The event was a huge success,” said Andrew Lauri, the local officer in charge. “Feedback from the local community was nothing but praise regarding our staff and office for the additional hours.”

Meeting little customers in Big D

Two USPS employees in Dallas recently participated in a career day at a local elementary school.

Teke White, a letter carrier, and Carrie Burrola, a customer relations coordinator, handed out crayons and postal-themed coloring books and showed the children an LLV.

“We had an absolute blast with the kids,” White said.
