The Postal Service dedicated its latest Hanukkah stamp in New Orleans on Sept. 29.
The stamp is the ninth in the series to recognize Hanukkah, an eight-night Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
Also known as the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah is observed by millions in the United States and around the world and is marked by family and tradition.
“Hanukkah is often translated as ‘dedication’ ― a reminder of what it takes to keep traditions strong and communities connected. That’s a mission the Postal Service understands,” said Carrie Rieger Brownlie, the Postal Service’s deputy general counsel, who was the dedicating official.
“That mission matters every day, but it’s especially clear during the holidays. A time when a card or letter can carry love, tradition and memories from one home to another ― even when we’re miles apart,” she said.
Joining Brownlie were master of ceremonies David Hammer, journalist and investigations unit chief for WWL Louisiana; Kevin Wilkins, Touro Synagogue congregation president and CEO of Trepwise consulting; Dodd Loomis, New Orleans Film Society executive director; Katie Bauman, Touro Synagogue’s senior rabbi; and Adrien Genet, Touro’s historian.
The stamp art features a colorful digital illustration of a dreidel by Lisa Perrin.
Antonio Alcalá, an art director for USPS, designed the stamp.
The Forever stamp is available in sheets of 20 at Post Offices nationwide and on usps.com.
