While delivering mail in Warrensburg, NY, recently, Letter Carrier Douglas Olden noticed an older customer sitting on the ground next to a leaf blower.
When the man called out to him, Olden got out of his vehicle and asked him if he needed help.
The customer told the Postal Service employee that he couldn’t get off the ground, so Olden helped him to his feet and took him back into his residence.
Olden later learned from the customer’s family members that the man was supposed to keep his phone handy because of his medical conditions, but he had left it in the house.
Employees featured in “Heroes” receive letters of commendation through the Postmaster General Heroes’ Program. The nomination form is available on Blue.
