Mailboat jumpers, stamp dedication ceremonies and new postmasters captured headlines

Last week, Link introduced you to a group of college students who deliver mail by boat.

These special carriers work on Geneva Lake in Wisconsin, where they leap from the moving boat onto piers to run the mail to mailboxes, collect outgoing mail and then jump back onto the boat, which is moving at 5 mph.

“It’s the perfect summer job,” said Marie Nickolette, one of the carriers. “It’s definitely a good way to get your steps in for the day. I just think it’s really a unique experience that not many people can say they do.”

We also covered recent dedication ceremonies for the Pinback Buttons and Autumn Colors stamps; the release of a new video on improvements to the Postal Service’s sales and marketing efforts; and the launch of a new stamps website.

Additionally, we introduced you to Jack Young, a Rockport, TX, letter carrier who rendered aid to a man having a seizure, and a crop of new postmasters in Maui County, HI — including Chris Harris (Puunene) and his mother, Michelle Almeida (Kihei), as well as Danielle Boteilho (Makawao), whose grandmother was a retired USPS employee.

“I take pride in the fact that I’m serving as postmaster in the same office that was once overseen by my grandma. That is very special to me,” Boteilho said.
