Letter Carrier Alicia Johansen noticed the mail at a customer’s house on her route in Akron, CO, had remained untouched for days.
The postal employee sensed something was wrong and decided to alert the sheriff’s office for a welfare check.
As it turned out, the man was in dire need of medical attention and rushed to the hospital. He was suffering from blood clots in his lungs and was having trouble breathing.
The customer spent three days in the hospital and made a full recovery.
The man was grateful for the welfare check and said he could have died if no one had checked on him.
