Letter Carrier Maria Cordova was recently delivering mail in a Boca Raton, FL, neighborhood when she came upon a toddler wandering alone in the middle of a busy street.
Cordova immediately got the girl out of harm’s way and called 911.
Responding police officers were able to locate the child’s family, who had not noticed her absence, and reunite them.
A customer who witnessed the incident later mailed a letter to the Postal Service, praising Cordova for “a very responsible and humanitarian act.”
“I think that Maria did something wonderful,” the woman wrote, “and as a resident, I thank her for going out of her way to help a vulnerable little girl.”
