The Postal Service is making major changes in its delivery fleet to better serve customers, USPS leaders told approximately 250 Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) managers and supervisors at a recent conference.
“Our goal is to be world class in fleet management,” said Fleet Management Manager Phil Knoll. “We are making the progress we need to continue to support the organization to the best of our ability.”
Knoll spoke at a symposium at the National Center for Employee Development in Norman, OK, where attendees participated in small group discussions to generate new ideas on topics such as cost reduction, preventative maintenance, business intelligence and acquisitions.
Attendees also had an opportunity to meet with industry suppliers in a trade show-style setting and see displays of new equipment and vehicles, including the cargo vans that USPS recently purchased.
Earlier this year, the fleet operations group was restructured, shifting more responsibility to regional managers.
The group is focused on implementing investments in vehicles, a major project that is part of the Postal Service’s broader emphasis on equipment upgrades.
Other speakers at the symposium included Delivery VP Ed Phelan, Sr. Fleet Operations Specialist Kirby Cothren and the seven regional fleet managers.
