The Postal Service processed mail-in ballots in several state and municipal elections last week, once again underscoring mail’s important role in the democratic process.
For example, in the weeks before the Nov. 3 election, USPS delivered 2.9 million ballots to voters in Colorado, one of three states that conduct all elections by mail. (The Postal Service also delivered 5.8 million pieces of political mail to Colorado voters.)
By 7 p.m. Election Day, USPS had sorted and delivered completed ballots to election officials in Colorado’s 64 counties, meeting the state’s deadline.
“The Postal Service is honored to be an integral part of Colorado’s election process,” said Colorado/Wyoming District Manager Selwyn Epperson. “I’m very proud of the thousands of postal employees who worked hard to collect, process and deliver these ballots.”
USPS also helped process mail-in ballots in other states, including Mississippi, Virginia, Kentucky and Utah.
The final major election this year will be the Nov. 21 Louisiana gubernatorial race.
