Letter Carrier Daniel Kaehne was delivering mail on an icy day last year in Baraboo, WI, when he came upon a customer yelling for help on a residential walkway.
Kaehne rushed to aid the man, who had stepped outside wearing only a flannel shirt and pants, leaving him stranded and exposed in frigid temperatures when he slipped and fell.
The Postal Service employee safely got the customer up on his feet, guided him inside, called 911 and comforted him until emergency responders arrived.
The man, a retired letter carrier, later contacted the local Post Office.
“If it hadn’t been for Dan hearing my plaintive call for help, I could have been there for quite some time,” he wrote. “I thank Dan for his act of friendship and concern.”
The customer recovered from the incident.
