Stephen “Matt” Wray, an area maintenance technician in Roanoke, VA, was recently off duty at home in nearby Boones Mill when he grew concerned about a neighbor.
Wray had not seen the man in a couple of days, so he decided to go next door to check on him.
The Postal Service employee soon found the neighbor barely conscious on his kitchen floor.
Wray immediately called 911 and rendered first aid until emergency responders arrived.
“Matt’s concern for others, and the actions he took, very likely saved the life of this man, who was suffering a medical emergency,” said Michael Vadala, a fellow area maintenance technician in Roanoke, who nominated Wray for Postmaster General Heroes’ Program recognition.
