Kelli St. Dennis, a highway contract route relief carrier, was recently delivering mail in a Garden Valley, CA, subdivision when she spotted something unusual:
Cash totaling nearly $900 lay on the ground around the neighborhood box unit.
St. Dennis gathered up the money and turned it in to local Postmaster Robin Rust, who notified the sheriff’s office.
The postal contractor also posted a notice online and monitored locally oriented social media for several days, ultimately seeing a plea from a customer who had lost the cash while hurriedly retrieving her mail.
The funds were returned to the woman, who desperately needed them to pay her bills.
“Everyone was happy Kelli did the right thing,” Rust said.
