City Carrier Assistant Justin McClanahan was on duty one day in February in Clinton, KY, when he came upon a vehicle that had flipped on an icy, isolated road, leaving the driver trapped inside.
When McClanahan stopped to investigate, he found the distraught man beating on the glass and asking for help to escape.
The Postal Service employee immediately rendered aid, safely getting the driver out of the vehicle.
McClanahan then called 911 and comforted the man until emergency responders arrived to provide further assistance.
“At that location, the driver could have been stranded all day in extremely cold conditions,” said Jason Hopper, the local USPS officer in charge.
He added: “Justin enjoys being a carrier and being able to serve and help the community.”
