Jenison, MI, Rural Carrier Kevin Galligan was making deliveries one day in February when he grew concerned about a customer who hadn’t picked up her mail as usual.
After getting no answer at the woman’s door, Galligan spotted her lying on the floor in the garage.
The customer, who has multiple sclerosis, had been stranded for an extended period after her personal emergency alert device malfunctioned.
Temperatures had dipped below zero during that time.
Galligan immediately called 911; alerted neighbors, who provided blankets to help her warm up; and comforted her until emergency responders arrived.
“Kevin’s gut instinct and quick thinking most definitely saved his customer’s life,” said LeeAnn Inosencio, the local USPS officer in charge.
