Letter Carrier Mary Greene was delivering mail on a rainy morning last fall in Fond du Lac, WI, when she came upon a 2-year-old boy crawling in the middle of a road.
Greene immediately stopped, picked up the toddler and sheltered him in the postal vehicle while she called the local Post Office.
Customer Services Supervisor David Ott advised her to contact police while he rushed to the scene to assist.
Upon his arrival, the Postal Service employees checked at nearby residences until they located the boy’s mother and returned him to her.
Officers soon arrived, thanked Greene and Ott, and followed up at the child’s home.
