Letter Carrier Erin Pennington was recently delivering a package to a residence in a Pittsburgh neighborhood when she smelled smoke.
Pennington momentarily saw flames shooting out of the house, so she immediately alerted a neighbor, who called 911.
The Postal Service employee then rushed to adjacent homes, knocked on doors, alerted occupants and remained on the scene until firefighters arrived to battle the blaze, which engulfed three structures and damaged two others.
Residents on the block credited Pennington with saving the lives of a sleeping woman and her three dogs.
