Letter Carrier David Wallasky knew a customer on his route was diligent about picking up his mail, so last spring when he saw the man had three days’ worth of mail sitting untouched, he knew something was off.
Wallasky alerted Iowa Park, TX, Postmaster Bruce Donald, who contacted the town’s police department.
Officers were dispatched and found the customer on his bedroom floor. He had fallen out of bed almost three days earlier and couldn’t get up.
The Iowa Park police chief later told Donald that Wallasky’s intervention probably saved the customer’s life, and that it just so happened that the man was rescued on his 77th birthday.
The man is back at home and fully recovered, according to the chief.
