Mountain Park, GA, Letter Carrier Christopher Montedoro knew something was wrong as soon as he arrived at the home of one of his regular customers, 90-year-old Elma McIntire.
“I bring her mail up to her door and am usually greeted by someone,” Montedoro told WSB-TV recently. “As I pulled up the driveway, I saw someone lying on the ground reaching out. That’s when I parked the truck and ran her way.”
McIntire had fallen when she went outside to retrieve a newspaper. She temporarily lost consciousness.
Montedoro carried McIntire into the house, called 911 and stayed with her until emergency responders arrived.
McIntire was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for a broken shoulder.
She has since recovered and recently visited the Post Office to attend a ceremony honoring Montedoro’s heroism.
“I love all you guys. You don’t get enough credit,” McIntire said.
Turning toward Montedoro, she added, “And that sweet man is my sweetheart forever.”
