My name is Michael Wilson and I’m a letter carrier in Washington, DC. I work in the downtown area, delivering mail to law firms, medical offices and other business customers.
I’ve been a letter carrier for 33 years, and during that time, I’ve built many meaningful relationships with the customers I’ve served. I’ve had the opportunity to see children grow into adults and start families of their own and become very successful. I’ve even attended graduation parties, weddings, anniversary celebrations and, unfortunately, some funerals.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built that started with a simple hello, a smile and a concern for the customer’s well-being. Some of these relationships still last today. I was surprised when several of these customers honored me with a celebration to thank me for my service.
When I’m not delivering mail, I enjoy listening to gospel and jazz music, attending concerts, cheering for my favorite sports teams and spending time with family and friends.
The Postal Service is a good place to work but if you’re interested in carrying mail, make sure it is something you would like to do. It takes a certain personality to interact with the public. My suggestion would always be to take pride in your service.
