Like letter carriers, rural carriers, mail handlers and others, retail associates are an important part of the Postal Service’s workforce.
USPS has about 121,000 associates at its more than 34,000 Post Offices, stations, branches and other retail locations.
These employees play a vital role in helping the organization achieve its business goals.
In addition to helping customers to mail letters and ship packages, retail associates educate the public about new products and services, including recent stamp releases and features like Informed Delivery.
During Grow Your Business Day events in USPS retail lobbies, the associates help educate local business people about services like Every Door Direct Mail. This requires retail associates to be postal experts, ready to answer customers’ questions and steer them toward the products and services that will best meet their needs.
Retail associates are also critical players behind the scenes, helping to scan packages, sort letters and parcels, and deliver mail to PO Boxes.
Other duties include processing passport applications, keeping lobbies orderly, and ensuring Priority Mail boxes and other products are stocked.
Through all of their efforts, retail associates help the Postal Service deliver excellent customer experiences, one of the organization’s core strategies.
