Letter Carrier Brian Steik was delivering mail in Las Vegas one day last summer when he saw something that worried him: A visually impaired customer who lives alone was inexplicably sitting on her porch in scorching desert heat.
Steik stopped to check on the woman, who said she had been outside most of the day because her power had been shut off.
Concerned that the customer was at risk for heat exposure, the Postal Service employee immediately located a neighbor who could provide further assistance.
The neighbor later contacted the local Post Office.
“Brian should be commended for his quick and compassionate actions,” the man wrote. “He took the time and made the effort to help out in an emergency situation, knowing that a neighbor has a disability and needs to be looked out for.”
