Letter Carrier Carol Helm was recently making deliveries in Charleston, WV, when she grew concerned about a customer whose mail was piling up.
Helm alerted the woman’s neighbor, who contacted a member of her family.
Emergency responders soon checked on the woman, who had died.
The customer’s aunt, Harriett Beury, later mailed a letter to the local Post Office.
“Our family is deeply grateful to the woman who cared enough to do something about what she thought might be a problem,” Beury wrote. “Please let her know that and make a note of her good deed, her competence and her compassion.”
