The Postal Service is marking National Card and Letter Writing Month with a little help from its friends.
USPS is collaborating with Scholastic and Hallmark on Show Someone You Care, a program that encourages third-grade and fourth-grade students and their families to send handwritten notes to share love, show thanks and build connections.
More than 97,000 classrooms across the United States will receive Show Someone You Care kits that include lesson plans to support literacy skills, student activities to teach the letter writing process, and custom stationery sets by Scholastic.
Hallmark has designed and donated 300,000 custom greeting cards and envelopes to be distributed to more than 11,000 classrooms nationwide.
Additionally, teachers and families can visit Scholastic’s Show Someone You Care site for lessons, bilingual resources and downloadable stationery. Individuals can also use Hallmark’s Think Make Share blog to get ideas and inspiration for writing cards and letters, including reasons to contact people, tips on what to write and etiquette on addressing envelopes.
“At heart, the U.S. Postal Service’s mission to bind the nation is all about connecting people. We are thrilled to join Scholastic and Hallmark in celebrating the rich lessons, artistry and emotional value behind the written word,” said USPS Brand Marketing Executive Director Chris Karpenko.
