Although federal ethics rules apply all year long, the Postal Service’s Ethics Office wants employees to remember that compliance is especially important during the holidays.
The Ethics Office Blue page has a presentation to help employees become familiar with the rules, which are known as the standards of ethical conduct.
The presentation includes the standards that apply to receiving and exchanging gifts between employees and outside sources, including customers, contractors, contract employees and vendors.
There are also guidelines for attending holiday parties hosted by outside organizations.
“This is our season to deliver holiday cards, flats and packages connecting friends and families across the United States,” said Acting Associate General Counsel and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer Natalie Bonanno.
“The American public trusts the Postal Service to deliver. Part of that trust could be broken if Postal Service employees solicit or accept gifts that would violate the standards of ethical conduct. Following the standards maintains the American public’s trust in the Postal Service and drives positive business results.”
If you have questions about the presentation or specific situations, email the Ethics Office or call its hotline at 202-268-6346.
