USPS employees submitted more than 104,000 sales leads that resulted in $877 million in postal revenue during fiscal 2018, a new record.
The leads were submitted through six programs — Business Connect, Clerks Care, Customer Connect, Mail Handlers, Rural Reach and Submit a Lead — that have generated $7 billion in revenue overall since they began several years ago.
Each program allow employees to provide tips about businesses that could benefit from using USPS products and services. The organization’s business development specialists then contact the businesses to explain how the Postal Service can help them.
“The programs wouldn’t be successful without the help of the business development specialists,” said Mary Anderson, small-business sales director at USPS headquarters in Washington, DC. “They are the ones out there in each district motivating our employees to participate in the programs and get out there looking for leads.”
The small-business team wants more employees to participate in the lead generation programs. The 104,000 leads submitted during fiscal 2018 (Oct. 1, 2017-Sep. 30, 2018) came from roughly 8 percent of the USPS workforce.
“Just think how much money could have been raised if 100 percent of USPS employees submitted just one lead each,” Anderson said.
