Minneapolis City Carrier Assistant Jordan Schmaltz has worked for the Postal Service for only 10 months, but he already has firsthand knowledge of the special role employees play in the communities they serve.
Schmaltz was delivering mail last month when he noticed the door to a house was open. He suspected something was wrong and knocked, but there was no response.
When Schmaltz pushed open the door, he saw a woman lying on the floor, surrounded by bags that she had dropped. He called 911 and stayed with the woman until emergency personnel arrived and provided the medical care she needed.
“Jordan’s quick thinking and actions are a perfect illustration that we deliver more than mail every day,” said Customer Services Supervisor Chad Stephan.
