In honor of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month, “The list” looks at a sampling of LGBT Americans featured on stamps.
1. Edna St. Vincent Millay. The playwright and poet, who was openly bisexual and became the third woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1923, graced an 18-cent stamp in 1981.
2. Tennessee Williams. Famous for works such as “The Glass Menagerie” and “A Streetcar Named Desire,” the openly gay playwright was honored in 1995 on a 32-cent Literary Arts stamp.
3. James Baldwin. In 2004, USPS issued a 37-cent Literary Arts stamp celebrating the life of the gay writer and civil rights activist.
4. Isadora Duncan. The celebrated dancer and teacher, who was bisexual, was one of four influential individuals honored with an Innovative Choreographers stamp in 2012.
5. Harvey Milk. One of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States was remembered on a 2014 stamp.
